Slow Cooker Whole Chicken
This recipe from 100 Days of Real Food needs no modifications. It is easy and absolutely delicious!
Equipment
- 1 Slow Cooker
Ingredients
- 2 tsp Paprika
- 1 tsp Sea Salt
- 1 tsp Onion Powder
- 1 tsp Dried Thyme
- ½ tsp Garlic Powder
- ¼ tsp Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Large Onion
- 4 lb. Whole Chicken
Instructions
- Combine the paprika, sea salt, onion powder, dried thyme, garlic powder and cayenne pepper in a small bowl.
- Chop a large onion into about 12 pieces and evenly spread on the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Remove any giblets from the chicken and place breast side up in the slow cooker. Sprinkle half the spices on the chicken, then flip the chicken breast side down and sprinkle remaining spice on chicken.
- Cook on high for 5 hours or until chicken is falling off the bone.
- Remove from slow cooker and allow to sit for 15-20 min before carving.
- Leave the juices and onions in the slow cooker and add all of the chicken bones back to the slow cooker to make Home-made Chicken Broth in the Slow Cooker.
Notes
This recipe can also be done with 8 chicken thighs instead of a whole chicken. Just half the spices. (Serves 4)
